Pedro Ricardo Morais Inácio is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), where he has served since 2010. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in information assurance and cybersecurity within the B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. programmes in Computer Science and Engineering. He currently serves as the Vice-Rector for Digital Strategy, Information and Human Resources Management and the Data Protection Officer of UBI.
He was born in Covilhã, Portugal, in 1981. He received a five-year B.Sc. degree in Mathematics and Computer Science in 2005 and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 2009, both from the University of Beira Interior (UBI), Portugal. His doctoral research was conducted within the enterprise environment of Nokia Siemens Networks Portugal S.A. under a Ph.D. grant awarded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.
He is an IEEE Senior Member, an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor, an ACM Professional Member, and a Senior Researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT). He leads the Network Applications and Services - Cv {///} nas-cv group and coordinates the Secure and Intelligent Networked Software Systems laboratory {////} sins-lab. His main research interests include information assurance and cybersecurity, computer-based simulation, and network traffic monitoring, analysis, and classification. He has authored more than 100 publications, including journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters in international peer-reviewed venues. He regularly serves as a reviewer for leading journals published by IEEE, Springer, Wiley, and Elsevier. He is a member of the Technical Program Committees of major national and international conferences and workshops, including ACM SAC, IEEE NCA, IFIP SEC, and ARES. He currently serves as a Senior Editor of IEEE Access.

He frequently exercises his passion for Mathematics and Cryptography through programming. He is proficient in C programming language, Pascal, Java and Hypertext PreProcessor (PHP). He also programs in Python, Perl, JavaScript, C++, Tool Command Language (TCL) and Lua, though not as frequently. He knows Structured Query Language (SQL) and some of the flavors of the language specific to the Database Management Systems MySQL, SQLite3, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server. He is proficient in using LaTeX for elaborating documents. He wrote most of the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) of this web page and the responsive Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) styles with the nano editor via SSH.
He studied and knows the functioning of protocols of almost all of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, namely Transport Layer Security (TLS), Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP), Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Ethernet. He has in-depth knowledge of the Android platform.
Pedro Ricardo Morais Inácio é Professor Associado do Departamento de Informática da Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI), instituição que integra desde 2010. Leciona unidades curriculares nas áreas da cibersegurança e garantia da informação a cursos de licenciatura, mestrado e doutoramento, nomeadamente aos de Engenharia Informática. É atualmente Vice-Reitor para a Estratégia Digital, Gestão da Informação e dos Recursos Humanos e Data Protection Officer da UBI.
Nasceu na Covilhã, Portugal, em 1990. É licenciado (pré-Bolonha) em Matemática Informática e doutorado em Engenharia Informática pela Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI), tendo obtido os respetivos graus em 2005 e 2009. Os trabalhos de doutoramento foram desenvolvidos no ambiente empresarial da Nokia Siemens Networks Portugal S.A., ao abrigo de uma bolsa de doutoramento da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.
É Membro Sénior do IEEE, Distinguished Contributor da IEEE Computer Society, membro profissional da ACM e Investigador Sénior do Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT). Coordena o grupo Network Applications and Services - Cv {///} nas-cv e o laboratório Secure and Intelligent Networked Software Systems {////} sins-lab. Os seus interesses de investigação incluem cibersegurança e garantia da informação, simulação assistida por computador e monitorização, análise e classificação de tráfego de rede. É autor de mais de 90 publicações, entre artigos em revistas científicas, comunicações em conferências e capítulos de livros internacionais com revisão por pares. Colabora regularmente como revisor para revistas científicas da IEEE, Springer, Wiley e Elsevier. É membro do Comité Técnico de Programa de conferências e seminários nacionais e internacionais de referência, incluindo a ACM SAC, a IEEE NCA, a IFIP SEC e a ARES. É atualmente Editor Sénior da revista IEEE Access.
