Pedro Ricardo Morais Inácio is an associate professor of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), which he joined in 2010. Lectures subjects related with information assurance and (cyber)security, and computer based simulation, to graduate and undergraduate courses, namely to the B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in Computer Science and Engineering. He is currently the Pro-Rector for the Digital University and the Data Protection Officer of UBI. He is an instructor of the UBI Cisco Academy.
He was born in Covilhã, Portugal, in 1993. Holds a 5-year B.Sc. degree in Mathematics/Computer Science and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering, obtained from UBI, Portugal, in 2005 and 2009 respectively. The Ph.D. work was performed in the enterprise environment of Nokia Siemens Networks Portugal S.A., through a Ph.D. grant from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.
He is an IEEE senior member, an ACM professional member and a researcher of the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT). His main research topics are information assurance and security, computer based simulation, and network traffic monitoring, analysis and classification. He has 70+ publications in the form of book chapters and papers in international peer-reviewed books, conferences and journals. He frequently reviews papers for IEEE, Springer, Wiley and Elsevier journals. He is a member of the Technical Program Committees of flagship national and international workshops and conferences, such as ACM SAC, IEEE NCA, IFIPSEC or ARES. Currently serves as a Senior and Associate Editor for IEEE Access.

He frequently exercises his passion for Mathematics and Cryptography through programming. He is proficient in C programming language, Pascal, Java and Hypertext PreProcessor (PHP). He also programs in Python, Perl, JavaScript, C++, Tool Command Language (TCL) and Lua, though not as frequently. He knows Structured Query Language (SQL) and some of the flavors of the language specific to the Database Management Systems MySQL, SQLite3, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server. He is proficient in using LaTeX for elaborating documents. He wrote most of the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) of this web page and the responsive Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) styles with the nano editor via SSH.
He studied and knows the functioning of protocols of almost all of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, namely Transport Layer Security (TLS), Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP), Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Ethernet. He has in-depth knowledge of the Android platform.
Pedro Ricardo Morais Inácio é professor associado do Departamento de Informática da Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI), instituição que integra desde 2010. Leciona unidades curriculares relacionadas com (ciber)segurança e garantia da informação, e simulação assistida por computador, a cursos de licenciatura, mestrado e doutoramento, nomeadamente aos de Engenharia Informática. É atualmente Pró-Reitor para a Universidade Digital e o Data Protection Officer da UBI.
Nasceu na Covilhã, Portugal, em 1992. Tem uma licenciatura pré-Bolonha em Matemática Informática e um Doutoramento em Engenharia Informática, obtidos na UBI em 2005 e 2009, respetivamente. Os trabalhos de Doutoramento foram desenvolvidos no ambiente empresarial da Nokia Siemens Networks Portugal S.A., ao abrigo de uma bolsa de investigação da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.
É membro sénior IEEE, associado ACM e investigador do Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT). Os seus interesses de investigação incluem segurança e garantia da informação, simulação assistida por computador, e monitorização, análise e classificação de tráfego de rede. Tem cerca de 70 publicações em livros, revistas e conferências científicas internacionais com revisão por pares. Revê com frequência artigos para revistas IEEE, Springer, Wiley e Elsevier. É membro regular do Comité Técnico de diversas conferências e seminários de referência nacionais e internacionais, como a ACM SAC, a IEEE NCA, a IFIPSEC ou a ARES. É atualmente Editor Sénior e Associado da revista IEEE Access.

Exercita frequentemente a sua paixão pela Matemática e a criptografia através da programação. É proficiente nas linguagens de programação C, Pascal e Java, e na linguagem de scripting PHP. Também programa em Python, Perl, JavaScript, C++, TCL e Lua, embora não tão frequentemente. Domina SQL e algumas das suas variações específicas aos sistemas de gestão de bases de dados MySQL, SQLite3, PostgreSQL e Microsoft SQL Server. É proficiente na utilização de LaTeX para elaboração de documentos. Conhece e lida com facilidade com HTML, CSS e com tecnologias relacionadas com aplicações Web.
Estudou e conhece o funcionamento de protocolos de quase todas as camadas do modelo OSI, nomeadamente o TLS, TCP, UDP, IPv6, IPv4 e a norma Ethernet. Conhece a plataforma Android em detalhe.
