Short Curriculum Vitae


From 1994 to 1995 he was a member of the Office Integration Team, a functional unit of the Digital Equipment Corporation Portugal. In this period he was responsible for the development of several software projects.

 

He joined the University of Beira Interior (UBI), Portugal, in 1995, where he is currently an Assistant Professor in the Informatics Department.

 

He received the B.S. degree in Mathematics and Informatics in 1995 (with honors) and the equivalence of M.S. degree in Computer Science in 2001, all from the UBI.

 

He concluded his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering of the UBI under the supervision of José Valente de Oliveira, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Algarve. The dissertation submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree was entitled On Interpretability Issues in Data-driven Fuzzy System Design.

 

He is a member of the Portuguese Telecommunications Institute, Soft Computing and Image Analysis Laboratory (SOCIA) at UBI and the Informatics Laboratory of the University of Algarve.

 

His research interests include application of fuzzy set theory and fuzzy systems, data mining, evolutionary algorithms, multi-objective optimization and clustering techniques with applications to image processing.
